Square, the payments platform, has acquired website building service Weebly for $365 million.
“This is a huge building block,” CEO Jack Dorsey said. “We can now offer our sellers an easy way, with minimal hassle, to sell both offline and online. All they have to think about is what they’re selling, and their customers.”
Amazon has recently parked its tanks on Squares lawn by launching Amazon Pay, this acquisition puts the ball firmly back in Amazon’s court by expanding Squares presence in the ecommerce environment, as well as leveraging Weebly’s 625,000 international subscribers, Square will be able to expand globally.
The majority of the Weebly team is reportedly joining the Square team.
